I’ve always loved the connection of my first love, Basketball and my other passion Radio.  They both require hard work from practicing regularly, perfecting your craft, being aware of your opponent, making the right moves, giving it your all when you perform and being on top of your game.

Whether it’s executing a radio show or a play given by the coach to score the winning point, you must remain focused and play to win.  If not to win, then why play?  That has always been my mantra, to “PLAY TO WIN”.  Practicing, being prepared,  investing in yourself, taking care of your health and dedication are just a few things you should include in your game plan.   You should always want to be the best.  You can’t win being otherwise.  Average or anything less will just get you by or swept off the court!  Playing to win should always be your mindset.

The awesome thing about basketball that I’ve always loved is that it’s more than a game but truly a lifestyle.  The drills learned to keep you in shape, to the different strategies and game plays that you go over to defeat your opponent to win the game applies in daily life.  I truly believe playing basketball growing up contributed to my work ethic and competitiveness.  In any and everything I do, I PLAY TO WIN.  Many fundamentals learned over the years in basketball I use in my daily grind, especially now more than ever being out of radio.  Some of the fundamentals I’m currently using include perfecting my craft, staying active and building my brand.

As I was playing basketball as a workout the other day(be sure to catch the video below), it hit me how basketball and my love for radio goes hand in hand.  The name of the game in basketball is to get the ball in the hoop and accumulate points of course.  Whichever person (if you’re playing one on one) or team has the most points, wins.  Well, if you don’t take your shot you can’t get closer to your goal of winning the game.  Aim, shoot, release and you’ll receive.  In the game of basketball, it’s racking up points to win.  In the game of life, it’s taking that shot to get you closer to your goal.  One thing I can tell you is that if you don’t shoot, you’ll never have a chance at getting that winning game point.  So what is your shot and what’s stopping you from taking it?

I plan to shoot my shot.  Literally, whether its in my workout or on my journey to one day return to the radio airwaves.  Until then, I’m in my off season and what do players do during their off season?  They train! To be ready and better than ever for the upcoming season.  When my “Season” starts, I’ll be a better, stronger, quicker player than ever dunking on my competition.

Now I know why the saying in the basketball community goes, “Ball is Life” because it truly is.  To win the game, you must take your shot and play to win.  Whether you play or love/watch the game, I hope sharing my story about the comparisons of the two will help you along your journey as you PLAY TO WIN.  Never give up.  Go after that ball in life and take that shot. It’s GAME TIME!

XOXO
